Inertial Sense, part of NovAtel, was founded in 2013 by Walt Johnson, who started Inertial Sense 10 years ago, with a vision – making precision navigation so lightweight and affordable that it could be deployed anywhere. Recognizing early on that the rapidly emerging industries of drones, mobile robotics, aerospace and defense, autonomous vehicles, and automated manufacturing would require scalable and affordable navigation solutions, he envisioned a future where high-precision navigation and even autonomy-enabling technologies could be accessible to any business.
Today, Inertial Sense supports customers who need dependable, scalable navigation solutions and a roadmap to autonomy. In 2026, Inertial Sense was acquired by Hexagon and will be integrated with NovAtel, part of Hexagon, to expand our capabilities and accelerate the delivery of high-performance navigation technologies to a broader set of applications and customers.
